Recently I have decided to go through all my photos and mementos, trying to select some photos to put on a digital frame for my daughters. I soon realized I had to get organized enough to do the task once in a while as to not get overwhelmed, so all the boxes had to be placed in a strategic place that is accessible but not in the way. Then while culling the photos and cards (yes, I have saved way too many cards) I also realized that I needed to have rousing music going on in the background like old favourites, maybe some Van Morrison, to get me going. Also, another way to keep going is thinking about the values I wanted to impart to my children: that is generosity, education, overcoming hardship, inclusion and enjoying yourself at the same time. Those values are reflected in photos but also will be informed by family stories, so I have decided to include some of those memorable stories.
I am telling you this because I wanted to tell you that my time spent at Calgary Unitarians allows me to live my values, which in turn make it all meaningful. Whether I am pursuing future revenue options, going to meetings that move forward projects that will help less fortunate people or participating in the Mindfulness group, they all allow me to live my values. One of the things I learned ages ago was to have some fun whatever I am doing on a volunteer basis. If I don’t enjoy the people, the process, or make friends along the way, I move on. Time is precious for us all so I hope you enjoy what you do here, who you meet here and know you are making a difference by just being here. Thank you. L.
