“The Truth Is Ugly, But We Will Persevere” Mural
Artist: Autumn Whiteway (Night Singing Woman)

This mural tells a hard truth. It remembers the buffalo slaughter, the starvation, the Indian Act, and the stolen children of residential schools. Yet through every wound runs an unbroken lifeline — the strength, spirit, and culture of Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. The final burst of colour is not an ending, but a beginning: a call to truth, healing, and the work of decolonization that belongs to us all.

The truth is ugly — but it lives here in colour, carried by the strength of Peoples who refuse to
disappear.—a new public mural by Saulteaux Ojibway/Métis artist Autumn Whiteway (Night Singing Woman).
