Working as a teacher, collaborative pianist, performer, clinician, and more, Matthew Barnett is receiving his Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano from the University of Calgary under Lana Henchell. He is pursuing further education in collaborative piano at the Mount Royal Conservatory under Claire Stevens. Matthew got his musical start in the marching arts scene, and having participated in the program himself, now instructs the front ensemble at the Sound of the Rockies High-School Marching Band. Through his education and his work, Matthew has performed locally and abroad, being awarded University and Provincial grants to travel to Baton-Rouge’s Collaborative Pianist Institute in June of 2024. He also actively participates in Calgary and Edmonton’s theatrical scene as the Pianist in the Cowtown Collection, a cow-themed brass theatre ensemble! Outside of his musical interests, Matthew has a deep love of history and has been working at Heritage Park for the past six years in musical and historical capacities. He is now searching for new musical experience in his own backyard and is excited to work with the Calgary Unitarians Church as choral pianist!
