CU Reads 2025 – What’s Ahead!

This year’s CU Reads promises to be engaging, thought-provoking, and deeply connected to our Unitarian Universalist values. Here’s what’s in store:

First Read – Indigenous Rights in One Minute
We begin with Indigenous Rights in One Minute: What You Need to Know to Talk Reconciliation by Vancouver Unitarian Bruce McIvor, well known through his work with First Peoples’ Law. This book will guide us as we reflect more deeply on land acknowledgements in our Sunday services.

Second Read – A National Conversation
For our second book, Canadian Unitarians will experiment with a new interactive format during the Canadian Unitarian Council’s Canadian UUs Read: A Sharing Our Faith gathering. You’ll want to mark your calendars for Saturday, November 1st when several Canadian UU ministers will pitch their book recommendations, sharing why each title matters right now. Participants will listen in on this lively conversation, ask questions, and help shape the theme of the Sharing Our Faith program. Together, we’ll experience the value of national connections and conversations at the heart of our covenantal tradition.

Third Read – A Calgary Conversation
Our final book will echo this same format—this time engaging Calgary Unitarians in choosing the title through a process of conversation, reflection, and discernment.

Get ready for a year of reading that sparks dialogue, deepens our faith, and strengthens our connections—locally and nationally. Rev. Samaya can’t wait, and we hope you’re excited too!
