This Week: Welcoming Grandfather Sun Home

This Week: Welcoming Grandfather Sun Home

What are our traditions?

Join us this Sunday, December 21st, at 10:30am in Panabaker for our weekly Worship at Calgary Unitarians. This weeks topic will be Welcoming Grandfather Sun Home.

We hope to see you there!

A Farewell to Krishan

A Farewell to Krishan

We are deeply grateful!

We want to share that Krishan Power will be stepping down as Music Director, with his last service with us on Christmas Eve. We are deeply grateful for Krishan’s leadership, creativity, and the music he has shared with our congregation. His presence has touched many hearts, and we will miss his guidance and artistry.

In the time leading up to his departure, we invite you to share with Krishan your appreciation for the ways his music and presence have enriched your worship and your life in this community. Let us celebrate the gift of his time with us and send him onward with our gratitude and best wishes.

Shaping the Future of Our Music Program

Thursday, December 18th, 7:00 pm – Panabaker Hall

As we prepare for the transition in our music leadership, we invite all members of the congregation who are interested in having a voice in the future of our music program to join us for a conversation: Thursday, December 18th, 7:00 pm – Panabaker Hall

This will be an opportunity to share your ideas, ask questions, and explore together how we might move forward in the weeks and months ahead. Whether your interest is in Sunday services, rehearsals, Cabaret, or the search for a new Music Director, your perspective and participation are welcome.

We look forward to gathering with you in community and creativity as we chart the next chapter of music at Calgary Unitarians.

Our Online Storyteller: January Dawn

January Dawn has agreed to be our online storyteller and will be posting to social media about our events. She’s done an incredible job so far of promoting us in the community, resulting in the opportunity for our minister, Rev. Samaya, to have an interview about Calgary Unitarians with CJWE (a local Indigenous owned radio station).

Lay Chaplaincy 101 : Basics Training for Rites of Passages

***Save the Dates 2026***

Interested in becoming a UU Lay Chaplain?

The CUC's National Lay Chaplains Committee will again be offering and facilitating the annual Basics Training for Rites of Passages, and also continuing with the successful LC Chats in the upcoming months.

Registration and details will follow soon.

Dates for the training (1 cohort) are: Saturday April 11, Sunday April 12 and Saturday April 18, 2026.  Training will be delivered via Zoom.   A certificate will be issued to those who complete the required 3 sessions.  This training is intended for those who are interested in pursuing the Lay Chaplaincy path, have been members of their congregation or fellowship for at least a year and have the endorsement of their congregational board.

The Canadian Unitarian Council’s unique lay chaplaincy program trains and supports carefully chosen lay members of Unitarian Universalist congregations who create and perform rites of passage, including weddings, child dedications, and memorial services. Lay chaplains are pleased to provide this outreach service to people who want a religious or spiritual ceremony: both to the general public and to Unitarian Universalists in congregations without a minister.

Contacting Rev. Samaya

Contacting Rev. Samaya

You will usually find Rev. Samaya in her church office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays – unless of course she has a meeting outside the church building. She typically answers emails (minister@calgaryunitarians.ca) first thing in the morning, so if you’d like a response faster than that, please feel free to contact her by text or phone (604-323-4341). Rev. Samaya is not in the office on Wednesdays as that is when she focuses on sermon writing.
