Spring Has Arrived – Here’s What You Need to Know

With the arrival of spring, our garden is once again being enjoyed by children, families, and gardeners. In the past at this time of year, we have also seen the return of individuals using the garden as a temporary campsite. While we recognize the challenges faced by those experiencing houselessness and want to respond with compassion, we must also ensure the safety of our community.

What We Are Doing

Securing the garden: Temporary locks are on both gates. The combination will be shared with those who need access.
Managing unattended belongings: Items left in the garden will be moved outside the gate with notice that unattended belongings may be removed in the future.

If you use the garden, please be aware of this situation. If you suspect someone is camping in the garden, contact the Alpha House HELP (Human-Centred Engagement Liaison and Partnership) Team at 403-805-7388 and complete a CU Incident Report Form.

If someone is in immediate distress, call 9-1-1 first, then leave a message for our Office Administrator that you have done so by calling 403-276-2436.

Every July, the Calgary Stampede brings a unique energy to our city. It fills neighbourhoods with celebration, supports local businesses, creates opportunities for volunteers, and brings together people from every walk of life. For about two weeks, Calgary becomes a place where conversations happen more naturally, new connections are made, and communities come together.

One of the traditions that makes the Stampede so special is the Stampede Breakfast. Across the city, community associations, organizations, businesses, and elected officials host pancake breakfasts that welcome thousands of people. They're known for great food, friendly faces, and a strong sense of community, but they can also be something more.

At Calgary Alliance for the Common Good, we see these gatherings as an opportunity to build relationships with the people who help shape our communities. Whether it's your city councillor, MLA, MP, or another community leader, a casual conversation over pancakes can often be more meaningful than a formal meeting.

To help you make the most of these opportunities, we've created our Pancakes for the Common Good page. There you'll find:

A growing calendar of Stampede breakfasts where elected representatives and community leaders are likely to attend.
A practical Conversation Guide with conversation starters, questions, and tips for discussing issues such as affordable housing, mental health, immigration, and good jobs in a respectful and constructive way.
A place to share your story after the event so we can learn from one another and continue strengthening relationships across our communities.
