In 1896, Rabbi Solomon Schechter of Cambridge University stepped into the attic of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Cairo, Egypt, and there found the largest treasure trove of medieval and early manuscripts ever discovered. He had entered the synagogue’s genizah—its repository for damaged and destroyed Jewish texts—which held nearly 300,000 individual documents, many of which were over 1,000 years old. Why was this enormous collection amassed, how was it discovered and what are the many lessons to be found in its contents? Schechter’s find, though still being “unpacked” today, forever transformed our knowledge of the Jewish past, Muslim history and much more. Rabbi Glickman’s talk will tell the story of this astounding discovery...

We’re excited to try a new experiment involving our families and children in Sunday worship!  Children will now have the option to join Courtney and Elliot downstairs or stay with their parents in the service until after the Time for All Ages when they are sung into their classrooms with Rachael. We’ll also be inviting family groups (including family of heart), to come forward to light the chalice—a wonderful opportunity to meet and find out a bit more about them. We’re also looking for opportunities to invite different children to participate in the Time for All Ages segment, sharing their creativity and voices with the congregation. Thank you for helping us make our Sunday services a more engaging and inclusive space for everyone!

Please bring non perishable food items especially now that the festive season is upon us. Appreciated are tins of tuna,salmon, ham,chicken,turkey.

Intergenerational group of Unitarian universalist Men, learning from one another both young and young at heart.

For many, this season sparkles with light and warmth. And for many others, it carries a quieter, heavier weight. Grief, illness, loneliness, anxiety, strained relationships, or memories that surface at this time of year can make the holidays feel overwhelming. Our Blue Christmas service is a gentle space of honouring—where all of who we are is welcome, without pressure to be merry.

You are invited to join us on Tuesday, December 16th at 7 pm for a reflective service of music, candlelight, and words of comfort. Together, we’ll acknowledge the complexity of this season, make room for tears and tenderness, and touch into the quiet hope that lives even within the darkest nights.

Whether you are carrying something heavy this year or simply wish to support those who are, you are most welcome. Please come as you are.

May this season hold you gently, in all that is unfolding.

Intended as a bridge between The Turning of The Wheel meditative journaling journey and the evening Winter Solstice Celebration Festivities and Dances, folx are invited to come to one, two or all three events as the day suits them! Note all three events are separate please register for each one you plan on attending. 

Join us for food and fellowship with members and friends for a potluck Christmas Dinner at the church on Christmas day. The dinner will be hosted by Andrea Walter and Jennifer Allore at the church. Doors open at 4:00 and the eating starts around 5:30. There will be great conversation and games for kids and adults. Please invite friends and family to join us for dinner.

Volunteers: people to help with setting up, making coffee, serving, and cleanup would be much appreciated. You can indicate your availability when you sign-up for the dinner.

It’s December, which means festive sweaters have officially returned to the wild and the office is preparing for its own winter rest.

The office closes December 24–January 4.
